This competency applies to situations where an individual is required to carry out gas testing of an atmosphere before entering a specific workspace. It requires the person to interpret readings and take necessary actions based on the interpretation.
The working environment may be hazardous, unpredictable, subject to time pressure, chaotic, and expose responders to risk. It may occur on land or water, by day or night. The workplace atmosphere may contain visible and invisible hazards, including hazardous surfaces.
This unit of competency is suitable for use in various situations, including confined spaces, enclosed and partially enclosed spaces, hot work environments, storage tanks, silos, pits, pipes, shafts, ducts, transport vehicles, and ships. It can also be used for testing as part of issuing a work permit or monitoring as part of working under a work permit. The gas tester can be held by hand or lowered into a space on a line.
Assessment
Participants will be assessed via questionnaire and practical demonstration of skills. Participants with literacy / numeracy difficulties or physical conditions should speak with the Trainer to discuss alternative assessment approaches. Applicants will be required to undertake physical activity to meet all the assessment criteria to a satisfactory level.
Qualification
On successfull completion, each participant will be issued with a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment.
Frequency of Training
Public sessions will be held monthly at 37 Crescent Road Waratah NSW 2298. Private sessions are available for groups of 4 or more.
